v1-beta is out!

v1-beta release note

This is the first update to 512px under. It’s quite a big one because there are changes in the content and important bug fixes.

The biggest point is the effort made to reshape the overall difficulty curve, by making small adjustments to the room layouts. This is a response to lots of players finding the game too difficult. I tried to keep it challenging but removed the parts that felt unfair. I also made the most tricky moves skippable. As a reward for these optional challenges, I added two new memory cards to collect. My previous article focuses on the difficulty tuning if you’d like to know more.

The biggest fix is a time counter issue. When saving and loading game state, only the minutes were actually restored. This allowed to manipulate the in-game time counter.

A significant quality of life improvement concerns the auto-save process. Because of its previous implementation, players would sometimes gets respawned in a room they already passed. Now the game makes more frequent saves so players should always respawn in the last room they visited.

Play the latest version of 512px under on the itch.io page and feel free to message me if you want to play the 1-alpha version.

Changelog

  • Update rooms (adjust difficulty on the main path)
  • Fix seconds and frame counters not being properly saved and restored
  • Auto-save state when close to a spawner tile instead of saving when changing room
  • Show which button to press to teleport and decrease button hold duration
  • Increase jump buffer duration and coyote jump duration (grace frames)
  • Decrease walk acceleration to make it easier to move by 1 pixel
  • Increase lamp range
  • Red cube won’t spawn if there’s no saved data

It's great that you're improving the game!
BTW I was wondering, whether you have a public twitter account as I picked the game as our freeware tip of this week, but wasn't able to find a twitter account to link it to :/

Also is there a way to contact somebody directly through itch, i mean other than using these public comments :)

Hey I’m glad you picked this game, thank you so much ! I don’t have a Twitter account unfortunately. I don’t think we can send private messages on itch.io so I added my email address on my itch profile!
